The Life Changing Power of the Brazilian Blowout

Life is so unfair.

No, really, it is.

Well, I mean, it can be. Okay, picture this, you're born in the seventies, half black and half white. Your mom's a hairstylist but she's also a hippie and thinks putting your hair into two Minnie Mouse afro puff pony tails is a great look. Meanwhile, you feel like a wild bison on the plains on a humid, end of summer day.

Then, fast forward, and while everyone is swinging their smooth, frizz-free hair, I was battling bad weather, humidity, sweat, and just about every other form of moisture that could potentially undo my styled hair. Friend's wedding? Don't dance too much or that $75 bridal style you just had done is going to make you look like the Godfather of Soul. First date? Might as well just wear it curly because pre-date nerves are gonna have you prespiring and guess what? Frizz. I get pissed just thinking about all the shitty hair days I've had.

I can't even remember when I got my first relaxer but I do remember the literally magical feeling of being able to toss my hair over my shoulder ("I do my hair toss, check my nails, baby how you feelin? Feelin good as hellllll.") like every straight haired chick I'd spent my life admiring. I ran my hands through my hair, pulled it back into a ponytail, pushed my bangs to the side and then to the other side. I gave humidity the middle finger and chose the smoothest of styles for summer cookouts and special events. For the first time in my life, I was able to grow my hair from the adorable pixie I was known for into shoulder length, styled hair. There were strings attached, however, like every Cinderella story; no bleach, no lightener, no highlights, no peroxide, no perms. I didn't give two shits. I would be brunette to my grave if it meant being able to have this glorious, soft, shiny, smooth hair forever.

Nowadays, you don't even have to get a relaxer. There are treatments like (the life changing) Brazilian Blowout that are totally customizable! Slightly loosen the curl, reduce frizz, or totally smooth hair while improving the condition of the hair, smoothing the cuticle, reducing the diameter of the strand, minimize drying time, create incredible shine, all without the terrible damage of a traditional relaxer. I think I'm going to try that next because, believe it or not, after spending my entire life battling my hair, I surrendered three years ago and let it grow in natural and I stopped getting relaxers which, btw, opened so many color doors for me! Wahoooo! Fuschia pink galaxy hair, anyone?
